Thursday July 21 Lineup
Our Sunnyside Summer is Swinging!
Doors Open at 6:30.
Frank Mona - Headliner
Dominic Wong, Nico Policzer, Peyton Lamb, Ben Franzky
The "Band so nice they named it twice" is back, musically defiant in face of fickle Sunnyside weather.
Online Hootenanny and SSN crowd-pleaser, and firmly rooted in the early 2000’s alternative rock scene, Frank Mona is a humble throwback to timeless classics as well as a refreshing take on modern rock.
Through the use of their infectious melodies, unique instrumentation, and overall mature songwriting, their music draws in and demands your attention. Drawing on an eclectic mix of influences all over the rock spectrum, Frank Mona blends together the best of what alternative rock has always been and everything it can be.
And, in the baffling spirit of Jethro Tull, Duran Duran, and Toto, no one - still - in the band is actually named Frank. Or Mona. Or is a dog.
Go figure.
Dean Jarvey
Dean Jarvey is an experienced performer, singing originals and songs spanning more than 200 years of memorable songwriting from a wide range of styles.
His yodeling, by itself, is a hearty testament to his affinity for the singing cowboys of the 1930's and 1940's.
Dean has jingled, jangled, and again jingled his musical spurs, ridin' merrily along as a veteran of many bands, choirs, and perhaps a cattle drive or two.
He also co-hosts the Varsity Community Association Open Stage nights - check out this great venue for new and emerging talent that has been running well over a decade!
Melody Stang
Captivating audiences with a balanced blend of ballads and heavy-hitting strums, Melody will pull at your heartstrings while you're stomping your feet.
That contrapuntal pull-push is Melody's way of viscerally recruiting your body to compel your mind to enjoy her galloping musical ride.
Melody's honest and charming banter seamlessly woven between songs threads the needle between heartbreak and hilarity. Spinning life's stories into well-crafted lyrics, the songs are bound by catchy melodies and clever chords.
While undoubtedly a "Singer", her downbeat is on "Songwriter" with musical idols like Joni Mitchell and Fleetwood Mac.
Great Grey
Calvin Adlington, Loren Adlington, Jason Caspell, Charity Adlington
Calvin has always been writing music, even as a young kid. He found his home in hardcore/metal bands as a youth, but he always had his own acoustic songs going on in the background.
Although he lived in Australia at the time, he was inspired by the bleak and dreary landscapes of his Canadian home (So the Australian Outback is lush and verdant?) and slowly put an album together.
Please keep in mind only the very, very talented can find inspiration in the bleak and dreary. That's art, plain and simple.
Upon moving home, he enlisted a best friend, his sister, and his wife, and The Great Grey was born.
Welcome, Great Grey, to a decidedly lush and verdant Sunnyside Summer Night!
Stephen King
Can't get more OH (Original Hootenanny) than our own Stephen King.
Kinger does it all. He named, designed the identities, then performed regularly for the original Keith'sHootenanny and Sunnyside Summer Nights. On top of that, Kinger continues to entertain us all, musically and otherwise, through his own extensive original catalog and in his role as one of Memphis and the Grande's grander guys.
Come early - then let Kinger serenade you to your seats, lead you in song, and set up your Sunnyside Summer Night reeeel nice.
